ABOUT MATT

Matt is a native of Tucson and a proud product of public schools. He holds a degree from the University of Arizona in Political Science & Sociology and currently works for the Pima County Health Department.
He serves on the Board of Directors for the Southern Arizona Children’s Advocacy Center, a local nonprofit dedicated to helping children who have been victims of abuse and neglect. In that role, Matt helps oversee an approximately $2 million budget.
He is also a Board Member of La Paloma Family Services, the children’s foster care and group home provider of La Frontera. In addition, he is also a board member for local non-profit Literacy Connects.
Matt was recently elected to the Board of his Credit Union, Pyramid Federal, and currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer. The quarter billion dollar financial institution helps make affordable financial services available to all.
From 2016 to 2017, Matt represented Legislative District 9, which includes part of Amphitheater Public Schools in the 52nd Legislature. Two of his proudest accomplishments during his tenure were the restoration of state funding for Career and Technical Education Programs and expanding KidsCare, the medical insurance program for children from lower income families.
In 2018, before his election to the Board, Matt served on the district’s Strategic Planning Committee.

WHY AM I
RUNNING FOR
RE-ELECTION?
When I was sworn in three years ago, none of us could have predicted what the future was going to be like. Our district has faced many serious challenges but we have risen to meet them.
Amphi expanded all-day Kindergarten to each of our Elementary schools, served more than one million meals to the community when schools were fully or partially closed due to COVID-19, and approved wage increases for both teachers and staff above and beyond what has been provided for by the State.
My priorities for a second term are to expand capacity and accessibility for our Pre-K programs, and complete the Amphi Career Center at Amphi High School, which is designed to help both students and the broader community with career skills and placement.
I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am excited to continue to make our district the best in Southern Arizona. I hope you will join in this effort.
